The Macdonald Wessex Hotel is situated in the Centre of Winchester and built in 1964. It was constructed on the abbey site originally belonging to Winchester Cathedral. The purpose of the hotel being built was so that it could be used as a back drop for something nice to look at from the Cathedral and the grounds it is set in, before shops and office buildings were constructed. A point of interest is that we house the boilers that belong to the Cathedral in our basement. There are many historical attractions to visit in Winchester like the Cathedral, Great Hall, Water Meadows, Colleges and Boutiques and speciality shops.
